The First Aid Course for Snakebites (FACS) is a specialized public outreach program designed by the Remote Envenomation Consultancy Services (RECS) in collaboration with the Malaysian Society on Toxinology (MST). FACS is organized by TOXED Sdn Bhd in partnership with various institutions and organizations, FACS is tailored to educate and empower the public on effective and timely first aid for snakebite incidents.
The primary goal of FACS is to raise awareness about venomous snake species in Malaysia and their potential dangers. The course emphasizes the importance of delivering proper first aid immediately after a snakebite while avoiding harmful interventions that may worsen the situation before the patient reaches medical care. This initiative addresses widespread misconceptions, misinformation, and inappropriate practices often observed among the Malaysian public and even some healthcare responders. Additionally, FACS promotes safe and appropriate health-seeking behaviors when dealing with snakebite incidents.
FACS equips participants with practical knowledge and skills to effectively handle snakebite emergencies, ensuring better outcomes and reducing complications.
